A good food recommendation starts with a particular meal: the içli köfte people mention, the lahmacun worth ordering hot, or a coffee stop that fits your afternoon. These five addresses emerged from visitor posts and city-community discussions, with business information checked separately. Sightmigo has not visited these restaurants; this is a sourced editorial shortlist.
Choose Mahir for lahmacun and boiled içli köfte, Şehzade for cağ kebab, Çiya Sofrası for regional dishes, Borsam for a lahmacun stop, and Walter’s Moda for coffee. Put the three Asian-side options on a Kadıköy day instead of crossing the city between meals.
Pick the meal that fits your day
These are five different stops to save across a trip, not five meals to squeeze into one afternoon. The branch and the dish matter more than a blanket “best restaurant” label.
| Stop | Go for | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Mahir Lokantası | Lahmacun + haşlama içli köfte | Pera or Osmanbey |
| Şehzade Cağ Kebap | Cağ kebab; ask how many skewers make a portion | Sirkeci · European side |
| Çiya Sofrası | Ask about the day’s regional dishes before choosing | Kadıköy market · Asian side |
| Borsam Taşfırın | Lahmacun, with another ordered fresh if you want more | Kadıköy · Asian side |
| Walter’s Coffee Roastery | Coffee; ask which cakes are available that day | Moda · Asian side |
Mahir Lokantası
Save this for lahmacun and the boiled version of içli köfte. In the Pera visit shared by @gezimekanrehberi, içli köfte was the standout. Another Instagram visit praised the same combination, and an Istanbul Reddit discussion independently recommended both dishes.
Pera is the useful choice for a Beyoğlu afternoon; Osmanbey belongs on a Şişli day. The Pera creator reported being seated without waiting and said they paid for their own meal. That is one visit, rather than a promise about queues or an independently audited disclosure. A separate visitor praised the lahmacun and içli köfte while disliking the rice.

A focused meat stop for a Sirkeci day: cağ kebab, served on skewers. It appears in several Istanbul community recommendations, including a March 2026 photo report whose author explicitly described themselves as local. That is a useful first-hand signal, rather than evidence that every resident agrees.
The same report noted that one portion did not feel filling enough for them. Plan around your own appetite and ask how additional skewers are charged. Street-number listings vary, so use the named restaurant map result and check the storefront instead of relying only on a copied number.

Choose Çiya for a meal built around regional cooking and the dishes available that day. A February 2026 Istanbul community recommendation specifically singled out Çiya Sofrası and distinguished it from Çiya Kebap. Other discussions also recommend it, so the useful angle is what to choose, rather than presenting a well-known restaurant as a secret.
The feedback is mixed on value and service. Visitor accounts praise the range of dishes, while others describe small portions or a disappointing bill. Browse the selection, ask about ingredients and prices, and choose a few dishes that interest you. A long list of unfamiliar names is not a reason to order everything.
Explore Çiya’s dishes on Instagram. The daily selection can change; look for Çiya Sofrası in Kadıköy when planning your meal.
Source: @ciyasofrasi ↗Borsam Taşfırın
A lahmacun stop to fit into a Kadıköy walk. One Instagram visitor described ordering two more after enjoying the first round. A Turkish food writer also describes returning for lahmacun and ordering them one at a time so they stay hot; Borsam appears again in a September 2026 Istanbul discussion.
This is an alternative to a longer sit-down lunch, rather than another compulsory meal after Çiya. Choose one as your main food stop, or share a smaller tasting if that suits your appetite. Avoid treating old prices in social captions as today’s menu.

For the coffee break, make the destination specific: Walter’s in Moda. An Istanbul Reddit contributor said their husband preferred its San Sebastian cheesecake for its creamy centre. An Instagram travel diary includes the café on a Moda afternoon, while other visitor reviews praise the coffee and cakes.
The cheesecake preference is one person’s comparison, not a citywide award. This is also not a traditional Turkish dessert. Choose it because you want coffee and something sweet after your walk. Some visitor reviews mention cigarette smoke, which is worth considering when choosing a seat.

Take a ferry, explore the market, choose Çiya or Borsam for lunch, then walk towards Moda for coffee and the waterfront. Our route keeps the food stops on one side of the city.
Follow the Kadıköy–Moda food walkHow we chose these stops
We looked for specific dishes and actual visit accounts, cross-checked recommendations across sources, and kept criticism alongside praise. A venue’s own account supplies practical information; it does not count as an independent recommendation. We do not turn likes, views or copied comments into a popularity score.
Some contributors describe themselves as local or as repeat visitors; others are travellers. We do not infer residency from the language of a post. Older accounts provide context, not current prices. Sources were reviewed on 11 September 2026. Restaurant hours, menus and availability can change.
How Sightmigo researches its guidesFive Istanbul food finds: common questions
Are these restaurants personally tested by Sightmigo?
No. This shortlist is based on cited visitor experiences and separate checks of business information. We identify the sources instead of implying that our team ate there.
Can I visit all five on the same food walk?
They are spread across both sides of Istanbul. Keep Çiya, Borsam and Walter’s for a Kadıköy–Moda day, and choose Mahir or Şehzade when your route takes you to their neighbourhood.
Should I book a restaurant or buy an attraction ticket for this route?
The self-guided walk is free to follow. Pay separately for any food and transport you choose, and check restaurant arrangements directly. Attraction admission is not required for the walk.
