Istanbul is a city of neighbourhoods as much as monuments. Start with the historic peninsula, then make time for the waterfront and the streets around Galata. Group your visits by area and choose a few booked experiences, leaving the spaces between them for food, ferries and unexpected views.

Pair Hagia Sophia with the Basilica Cistern and leave a break between visits. Decide whether you want to explore independently or meet a guide. A ticket for the separate Hagia Sophia History & Experience Museum is a different purchase from entry to the monument.

Cross the water, change the pace

Keep another day for Galata, Karaköy and time on the Bosphorus. A public ferry crossing and a dedicated sightseeing cruise have different routes and purposes. Check where your boat leaves before arranging the rest of the afternoon.
