Give the Asian side an afternoon of its own. Start at Kadıköy’s ferry area, look around the market, choose one lunch stop, and continue through Moda for coffee and the waterfront. This is Sightmigo’s suggested walking sequence, informed by the food research linked below; it is not a guided tour or a personally tested itinerary.
Allow roughly 3–4 hours after arriving in Kadıköy, as a planning estimate including lunch and coffee. Pick Çiya for a longer regional meal or Borsam for lahmacun. Continue to Walter’s Moda, then finish near Moda Pier. Check the return ferry separately.
Your afternoon at a glance
The order is flexible. Check the walking map for the live route and the business profiles for opening arrangements. The time allowances below are editorial estimates, not measured journey times.
| Step | What to do | Suggested allowance |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Kadıköy ferry area | Arrive and get your bearings | 15–20 minutes |
| 2 · Market streets | Browse before choosing lunch | 20–30 minutes |
| 3 · One lunch stop | Çiya Sofrası OR Borsam Bahariye | 45–75 minutes |
| 4 · Walter’s Moda | Coffee and an optional cake | 30–45 minutes |
| 5 · Moda waterfront | Finish with time beside the sea | 30–45 minutes |
1. Arrive in Kadıköy
Choose a sailing that actually stops at Kadıköy. The ferry departure board and operator timetable decide the service; do not assume every Bosphorus boat is a public crossing. Allow extra time for getting to the pier and waiting, outside the afternoon estimate above.
If you already stay on the Asian side, start at the ferry area without adding an unnecessary crossing. Keep the return journey in mind before heading further into Moda.
Read the Istanbul transport guide2. Explore the market, then choose your lunch
Walk into the market streets around Güneşlibahçe. Look at the menus before sitting down; browsing should help you decide what you actually feel like eating.
For a longer meal, choose Çiya Sofrası at Güneşlibahçe Sokak 43 and ask about the regional dishes available that day. For lahmacun, choose Borsam’s Bahariye branch on Serasker Caddesi. These are alternatives: there is no need to eat a full lunch at both.
- Çiya: ask about each dish, its ingredients, portion and price.
- Borsam: the map below selects Bahariye; the business also has other Kadıköy branches.
- Allow time to wander between stops. Use the live map for the walking route rather than treating these allowances as fixed transfer times.
3. Pause for coffee at Walter’s Moda
Continue to Bademaltı Sokak 21/B. A coffee break gives the afternoon a pause before the waterfront. Ask what cakes are available; the cheesecake recommendation that led us here is a visitor’s preference, not a promise about the display on your visit.
The business lists 08:00–23:00 daily for Moda as checked on 11 September 2026. Check again if this stop is essential to your plans.

Continue towards Moda Pier and leave the last part of the afternoon open for a waterside walk. Moda sits on the Sea of Marmara side of Kadıköy; its cafés and coastal setting are the reason to linger here.
The route ends by the water. It does not assume a return ferry from Moda Pier: check current sailings and, if needed, make your way back to the main Kadıköy ferry area. In rain, shorten the waterfront section and spend longer over coffee.

Check the route for steps, gradients and crossings if you need an accessible journey. We have not audited it for step-free access. If you have a timed museum visit back on the European side, leave a generous return buffer instead of adding this whole afternoon between bookings.
No attraction pass is needed to follow the streets and waterfront. Meals and transport are separate purchases. The cited visitor posts informed the restaurant choices; the sequence and time budget are Sightmigo’s editorial suggestions.
Compare the food stops before choosing lunchKadıköy–Moda food walk: common questions
How long should I allow for a Kadıköy–Moda food walk?
Allow around 3–4 hours after reaching Kadıköy, including one lunch and a coffee break. This is a suggested planning allowance. Ferry travel, queues and your pace can add time.
Does this walking route include a paid tour?
No. It is a self-guided editorial route. Use the map links and pay separately for the food or public transport you choose.
Should I have lunch at both Çiya and Borsam?
Choose one as your main lunch stop. Çiya suits a longer meal built around regional dishes; Borsam is the lahmacun option. The two maps let you choose either route.
